Painting (2010); The artist’s education has been very much in the use of the visual components of colour, tone, shape, line, rhythm, space and movement. The framing removes the body and the desaturated colouring and Television or similar media 16:9 ratio linking the character to a particular time or media environment.
This opens up the space for focused non-verbal communication between subject and viewer. Within that space, the viewer gets to project possible content or problems onto the subject in the painting and an imagined communication. The title of the body of work is ‘Consciousness and the Soul’ referring to unique questions that are generated by the way we use our eyes as a separation from our bodies and towards something else or ‘other’.
